Vancouver Neighbourhood
Saturday starts at New Brighton Park, dogs loose inside the fenced, double-gated off-leash area, then back up to Hastings Street for coffee.
Hastings Sunrise is mainly residential, running from Clark to Boundary Road and from Nanaimo down to the waterfront. About 9,600 people live here, the median age is early forties, and just under six in ten own. Most of what comes up for sale has three bedrooms or more.
The shops and services sit along Hastings Street, on the stretch known as East Village: independent stores, craft breweries, small places to eat. East Cafe at 2401 E Hastings St bakes in-house and carries East Van jam and Okanagan fruit juices. In The Moment Coffee is further east at 3601 E Hastings Street.
Dogs are on-leash there. New Brighton Park has the fully fenced, double-gated off-leash area instead.
Hastings Community Centre sits at 3096 E Hastings St, with an indoor and an outdoor pool, an ice rink and a fitness centre. It's jointly run by the Hastings Community Association and the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation.
Public elementary: Hastings Community at 2625 Franklin St, Tillicum Community Annex at 2450 Cambridge St, and Sir John Franklin Community on Skeena Street. Independent secondary: St. John's Academy at 369 Boundary Rd and West Coast Christian School at 15 Renfrew St N. Check the school board map for a specific address.
